Examples run the Linux ls command with the directory names

Now you will run the ls command examples of Linux with multiple directories names – as the root directory, represented by a slash / () and execute the ls command with the names of other directory outside the root directory.

Enter the ls command examples below, as shown on the right of the Linux command line prompt ($ symbol) – any symbol is displayed on your system for the system – but do not type in the $ symbol system.

Also, Linux commands are "sensitive" cases, so that write commands exactly as shown and press Enter after typing in each of these Linux command to "run" commands.

When you run the command ls Linux – Using examples of the ls command with the directory names

The first command ls following example runs the ls command with the-l ( "long") option to display the directories and files "out of the / (root) directory.

Remember not to write the $ symbol to execute the command below.

    $ Ls-l /

After running a Linux command, you will see the "exit" from command on the screen.

In the Linux command example above, the ls command is run "in" the / (root) directory to display the contents of this directory.

The "root" directory of a hard drive Linux is represented by the / (forward slash). This directory contains all directories and files on a hard drive Linux.

The output above shows that the / (root) directory contains several directories "out" or "down" the / (root). His departure Linux screen shows some of these as: sbin, tmp, usr, and var. Many of these names of directories, such as sbin, tmp, usr, and var – and others are the same names found in all versions of Linux.

The output and directory names in your system can be different from those described herein, but is likely to be the same, depending on your Linux distribution.

    Linux Commands Training Tips: When you're working in Windows, directories are called "folders" that are the same as those used for folders and store files and folders.

    For example, the directory (folder) called usr is below the root / () and this directory contains other directories.

Now run the following ls example to see the contents of the directory / usr, which is below the directory /.

    $ Ls-l / usr /

The "/ usr "in the above example is the Linux command" path "in the directory. The" way "in the directory usr: The / (root) directory, and then / usr, which is "outside" in the root directory.

Now get a list of the contents of the bin directory below the directory / usr, that is "off" or "below" the / (root) directory.

    $ Ls-l / usr / sbin

The command output above shows the contents of the directory named bin.
