Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus, firewall software?

As you probably know I'm a Windows user, but I've seen how good Ubuntu and decided to give it a go in a spare computer of mine. Ive got everything installed, which used part of the old gray matter. However, I am very impressed especially since its free. Now back to my question. I hear you do not need antivirus software, firewalls, etc with Linux. Is this true? If you need to install some type of security, can anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction. Thank you very much.
